Birta Guðjónsdóttir, sýningarstjóri og myndlistarmaður, hefur verið ráðin listrænn stjórnandi Listar án landamæra.
Birta er einn fremsti sýningarstjóri landsins. Hún var m.a. sýningarstjóri íslenska skálans á Feneyjatvíæringnum 2019, sýningu Hrafnhildar Arnardóttur / Shoplifter og einn af fjórum sýningarstjórum Momentum 8 - Norræna tvíæringsins í samtímamyndlist, í Moss, Noregi. Síðustu ár hefur Birta stýrt yfir 40 sýningum í helstu listrýmum og listasöfnum hérlendis sem og víða erlendis, m.a. í Berlín, Amsterdam, Melbourne, New York, Sánkti Pétursborg og á Norðurlöndunum. Birta var safnstjóri Nýlistasafnsins árin 2009 til 2011, listrænn stjórnandi sýningarýmisins 101 Projects í Reykjavík og var sýningarstjóri í SAFNi, samtímalistasafni Péturs Arasonar og Rögnu Róbertsdóttur á árunum 2005 til 2008. Á árunum 2002 til 2013 rak hún sýningarýmið Gallerí Dvergur í kjallara heimilis síns í Reykjavík. Þá hefur Birta einnig sýnt sín eigin verk á fjölda sýninga, bæði samsýningum og einkasýningum.
Birta hefur tekið þátt í fjölmörgum norrænum og alþjóðlegum verkefnum er snúa að sýningarstjórn ásamt því að skrifa um íslenska og erlenda myndlist. Birta hefur starfað sem stjórnarmeðlimur í Listfræðafélagi Íslands, varastjórnarmeðlimur í Safnaráði, ritstjórnarmeðlimur íslenska listtímaritsins Sjónauka, meðlimur í stjórn Nýlistasafnsins í Reykjavík og stjórnarmeðlimur í Sambandi íslenskra myndlistarmanna; SÍM. Auk þess hefur hún setið í fagnefndum Listaháskóla Íslands, Listasafns Reykjavíkur og Kynningarmiðstöðvar íslenskrar myndlistar.
Birta er með BA gráðu í myndlist frá Listaháskóla Íslands, MFA gráðu í myndlist frá frá Piet Zwart Institute í Rotterdam i Hollandi og nam listfræði (Critical and Pedagogical Studies) við Listaakademíuna í Malmö.
Það er List án landamæra mikill fengur að fá Birtu til starfa fyrir hátíðina og bjóðum við hana hjartanlega velkomna til starfa.
Birta Gudjonsdottir, curator and artist, has been appointed Artistic Director of art festival Art without Borders (List án landamæra).
Birta Gudjonsdottir (b. 1977) is a curator and artist living in Reykjavik and Berlin. She is a leading curator in Iceland.
Gudjonsdottir was a Curator of the Icelandic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2019; exhibition Chromo Sapiens of Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir / Shoplifter.
In 2013 - 2018 he had the position as Chief Curator at the National Art Museum of Iceland, Reykjavik.
In 2015 she was a Co-curator of Momentum – Nordic Art Biennial of Contemporary Art in Norway.
In 2013 she was a guest-curator of the Nordic Triennial of Art in Eskilstuna, Sweden.
In 2009 - 2011 she had the position as Director of The Living Art Museum, Reykjavik.
In 2008 - 09 she had the position of Artistic Director of exhibition space 101 Projects, Reykjavik.
In 2008 she was as curator´s assistant at MuHKA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp, Belgium.
In 2007 - 08 she took part in the Nordic Baltic Curatorial Platform project, initiated by FRAME, Finland. In 2005-08 she worked as a Curator at SAFN, Private Contemporary Art Collection, Reykjavik.
Gudjonsdottir has independently curated over twenty-five exhibitions in Amsterdam, Basel, Berlin, Melbourne, New York, St. Petersburg, Venice, the Nordic countries and most art museums and art spaces in Iceland. In 2011 she participated in the Curatorial Intensive Program of ICI; Independent Curators International, New York. In 2011 she participated in The Cornwall Workshop, organised by Tate St. Ives. She has been on advisory boards of the Icelandic Art Center, The Reykjavik Art Museum, The Icelandic Academy of the Arts, and on the boards of the Association of Art Theorists in Iceland, The Reykjavik Art Museum, and the Association of Icelandic Artists. 2002-2013 she produced her home-gallery Dwarf Gallery, Reykjavik. She is a member of IKT, International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art.
